Our two day trip from Den Haag to Austin

Well, we made it!  We are finally back from the Netherlands.  It was, in total, a 2 day journey and I can say that we couldn't be happier to be back and I hope that we don't take the twin tornadoes on another 10 hour flight in a LOOOOONNNNNGGGG time!  We started our trip by spending the night in a hotel in Amsterdam where our reservation got mixed up so we ended up with two adjoining rooms instead of a suites (the rooms are very small so one room would not fit two adults and two children... the limit was 3 people so we were forced to get another room).  I made the mistake of letting the kids go to bed with the new airplanes that we bought them to get them excited about our flight.  Linc was up at 3am playing with his airplane complete with noises and lights.

So, after our sleepless night, we made our way to the airport where we finally boarded our plane to Houston with a connecting flight to Austin.  Our sweet Lili screamed the ENTIRE 10 hours.  Ryan had to spend some of the time in the bathroom with her because the people sitting around us were very unhappy.  The man sitting next to us was saying curse words he was so angry.  Unlike our empty flight to Europe, this flight was almost full and they were unable to find new seats to get away from us.

After we finally got off of the plane and through customs, Ryan made the executive decision that we should rent a car and drive back to Austin rather than wait 5 hours for our connecting flight.  I agreed, as we would get home much sooner.  We were so happy to finally get in the car and start our 3 hour drive home.  We were sure that we were home free.  Any screaming from the kids would be fine as there wouldn't be anyone other passengers to worry about.  Then it happened.  Linc started screaming and I looked back at him and the vomit came spewing out.  EVERYWHERE.  We had to stop, change his clothes, clean up his chair, comfort him, and get back on our way home.  He proceeded to vomit about 3 more times and I was able to catch it with a plastic bag.  Then I looked at Lili and she looked funny.  I asked her if she was sick and she said no.  The next moment it was her turn.  Again, we stopped, cleaned her up, comforted her, and this time, I decided to sit between them with several plastic bags.  The rest of the way home I went from child to child, holding the bag, cleaning off faces, cheering them on, congratulating them for making it into the bag, getting vomit on my clothes and hands.  It was the perfect ending to our trek home.  Once we finally arrived home, the kids went straight to bed and thank goodness they didn't get sick again.

Linc and I had jet lag for a few days.  The first morning we woke up at 3:30 am.  The next few mornings we woke up a little later and then we finally got back on track.  Ryan and Lili were able to get right back on track from day 1.

We are so happy to be home and so happy that our crazy trip and crazy experience is over with.  Now onto the next chapter.  2012 is definitely the year of change for the Perry family!
